At last night’s PAC meeting we had the pleasure of listening to Gillian Corless speak about not only the children in our district, but the children in our neighbourhood and school.

Gillian is a Lord Roberts parent from UBC’s Human Early Learning Partnership, and she discussed the latest research findings on Vancouver students. Using the results from the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI), we looked at how Grade 7 students felt about living in the West End and going to Lord Roberts, including their:
• Social and Emotional Development
• Physical Health and Well-Being
• Connectedness to Adults and Peers
• School Experiences
• Use of After-School Time
These 5 are critical components of development and are strongly linked to well-being, health, academic achievement, and success throughout the school years and in later life.

If you missed it be sure to check out this valuable resource: http://www.earlylearning.ubc.ca

We are hoping to have another session with Gillian in the spring!
